Far Cry 5 – My Thoughts

In a world where Fortnite, Call of Duty and APEX are adding more unnecessary chaos into our lives, it’s nice to switch gears and slow down a little. Most generic games nowadays feature online dominated game modes like Battle Royale and co-op/ vs rival game modes. We have lost touch and even lost interest with a beautiful work of art that comes in the form of open world single player games. Games like Skyrim, Fallout, Red Dead are the games I grew up playing and loving. Now I can’t go anywhere without a kid dancing ‘Take the L or ‘Flossing’. It sickens me deeply.

In the last year, developers have been trying to focus on and establish new single player games that will take us away from those horrid Battle Royale games. Now is the rebirth of single player games. At this current point in time we have games like Red Dead 2 hitting our consoles with such a bang I feel like I’m literally living in the wild west. We it has even been announced that EA Games are working on a single player Star Wars stand alone game which will focus on a great story. Potentially, rivalling some old LucasArts classic. These are the games we as TRUE gamers are crying out for.

I know I’m a little late to the party. This games been out for a little while. However, I have never actually played a Far Cry game before. I am ashamed to say this is my first…

… but it won’t be my last.

I have only been playing this game for a week and i amALREADY  taken. The world of Hope County has absorbed my interest so intensely that my usual gaming habits have gone out of the window.

The game opens up with a clear story of how a homely generic region in the US called Hope County is taken over by a man named ‘The Father’. A religious yet vicious cult leader who takes over the county through fear and religious righteousness. The aim of the game, as with many Far Cry games (I do believe), is to liberate the region from a tyrannical reign of terror. As you wade your way through the map teeming with ‘Peggies’ (the militia thugs who work for The Father), you free civilians who are abused by the regime and spur them on to fight The Fathers religious agenda named ‘Edens Gate’. There are even certain specialists in the game that aid you in your quest of liberty who can provide their services in unique ways in battle, as long as help them first with menial tasks.

What has me gripped to this game more so than the shooting, driving and the all round game play, is the host of other activities around the landscape. Yesterday I spent at least 2 hours simply exploring the map, finding new fishing locations and just simply fishing a variety of different fish. Fishing within the game is a fun side activity that provides you with loot that you can sell on to a merchant to make money for a decent price. This is the same for hunting. You can become fully immersed in the game whilst tangling your self in a brawl with a cougar or even a bear. There are even more activities I have yet to experience and master as the game almost seems endless.

A huge part of a games performance amongst today’s audience and I myself care greatly about quality. The graphics for Far Cry are decent. Shadowing and lighting is something they have really focused on and makes for a very picturesque game. However everything else seems very generic and average for a modern game. Maybe with an Xbox One X this game would blossom even further however at this point in time the graphics are not something to boast about. The mechanics and game play feel very realistic and not as fast paced as the several other modern games like Call of Duty. I personally love this however I know many others hate this style of game play.

All in all, I think the game deserves a run through by anyone who is sick of kids crying down their microphone, seeing an enemy dabbing and flossing over your dead corpse This game is definitely for people who just to chill out and play the game at their own pace. If you’re feeling hesitant … you should probably think again. I was at first and now I believe Far Cry is one of my favourite games of all time.
